Outspoken gay rapper Kevin Fret shot dead in Puerto Rico

A popular gay rapper has been shot dead in Puerto Rico.

Kevin Fret was shot multiple times as he rode his motorbike around San Juan on Thursday.

The 24-year-old was considered to be Latin Trap’s first openly gay artist, according to the BBC.

His agent said in a statement: “Kevin was an artistic soul, a big hearted dreamer. His passion was music and he still had a lot to do.

“This violence must stop.

“There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go.”

The rap star was considered an ally to the LGBTI community.

He previously told Paper Magazine: “I’m a person that doesn’t care what anybody has to say.

“Now I see young gays or young lesbians that are looking at me now like a role model, like wow, if he did it, and he don’t care what anybody else has to say, I can do it.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda shared news of the star's death on Twitter before adding: "This is heartbreaking."

Agents from the Criminal Investigation Corps of San Juan are continuing to investigate his murder.

Mr Fret’s death comes as Puerto Rico sees a rise in street crime.

According to Puerto Rican media, 24 people have been killed in the country so far this year.
