Outrage as Leith parks treated as 'dumping grounds' by lockdown rule flouters

Leith locals have taken to Facebook to condemn lockdown rule flouters who continue to litter the area's parks during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a post shared on group 'I Love Leith', one user shared an image of rubbish and a barbecue strewn across Leith Links :

"Shout out to the group who had a barbecue on the Links last night, looks like you had a great time! So jealous.

"Also, thanks very much for leaving a bag for life out for us, made it a lot easier to tidy up your mess, very thoughtful.

"These people must be so busy that they can't take 30 seconds to clean up. We should be pleased that there are such important people here in Leith."

The post, which has now been liked over 400 times, has seen more than 120 comments from fellow locals voicing their anger at the continued littering of the area's public green spaces.

One wrote: "I’ve been going a few days a week with my ‘grabber’ but I've not seen this much rubbish in one place.

"My bag consists mostly of beer cans, cigarette packets and water bottles, not to mention plastic bags."

Another added: "I can’t believe someone wouldn’t be mortified walking away from that. Some people have no shame."

The news comes as more and more cases of fly-tipping across the capital are reported - most recently, a boat was dumped by roadside in Edinburgh as fly tippers continue to blight the city.
