Outrage as diner calls police on woman breastfeeding her child in public cafe

A diner called police over a woman breastfeeding at a cafe - only to be told by officers that the mum was allowed to breastfeed in public.

A woman reported the mother for feeding her baby at Alreddy Cafe & Espresso Bar in Sharonville, Ohio, US, without covering up.

Cafe owner Viktoria Reddy was in the kitchen at the time of the spat, however she has now spoken out in support of the mum.

The outraged customer reportedly complained to a waiter about the mother's actions.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer , Ms Reddy said: "Next thing we know, the police are at the door."

She told WLWT : "The (complaining) customers did end up leaving, not eating, and kind of upset that it wasn't taken more seriously for them. I don't know.

"I just feel like it's a natural thing (breastfeeding) and it's a good thing and I wish more mums did it. I just pray that it's a place that people just feel comfortable."

Ms Reddy said the mother involved may not have even been aware of the complaint - and she apparently left before officers arrived at the scene.

Police told the outraged customer that breastfeeding in public is legal under Ohio state law.

It is not the first instance of 'breastfeeding shaming', with Sharna Weiske recently suffering abuse over feeding her child at an Australian McDonald's.

Sharna Weiske says she was 'completely covered' when feeding her daughter last month, although she was shamed nonetheless.

It was only her second time feeding in public when Ms Weiske got abuse.

She was at a McDonald's in the Queensland coastal city of Hervey Bay when her six-week-old baby, Elouise, started crying.

Ms Weiske began to breastfeed her daughter so she would calm down, only for a teenage girl surrounded by a group of friends to shout out 'that's disgusting'.
