Outrage as busy Glasgow bus stop mothballed by 'ridiculous' McDonald’s drive-thru filter lane

Locals in the Maryhill area of Glasgow have launched a scathing attack on Glasgow City Council after a busy bus stop was mothballed to allow for a 'ridiculous' filter lane for McDonald’s drive-thru to be installed.

The bus stop, across from Tesco Extra on Maryhill Road, is one of the most used in the area by commuters heading into the city centre and down to the west end - with the nearest alternative bus stop a near five minute walk away.

A tweet widely shared online said: "Hope McDonald's being charged lane rental. Where is alternative bus stop situated? If there's room for a dedicated lane for McDonald's drive thru, there's room for a cycle lane!"

In response to the tweet, one person noted that it was "a ridiculous idea" while another wrote "I can't actually believe this is happening".

Glasgow City Council responded by tweeting: "This lane is temporary traffic management to help with road safety in the area while there is a high demand for drive thru services.

"If you wish to comment about cycling provision, please add a pin to our Spaces for People project map.

"For additional information, these works belong to SGN Gas, and they have incorporated a queuing system for McDonalds to assist in road safety."
