Outrage as 19-year-old 'gorgeous soul' killed in latest gun murder on our streets

Outrage, heartbreak and grief have flooded social media after a 19 year old was killed in the latest gun murder on Merseyside streets.

The young man was shot dead at around 6.30pm on Thursday, in the cul-de-sac of Boode Croft in Stockbridge Village.

Paramedics rushed to save the teenager's life and desperately gave him CPR but he died a short time later, sparking a murder investigation by Merseyside Police.

The scene was quickly cordoned off as armed response, police officers, detectives and forensic specialists raced to find evidence that would help catch his killer.

Neighbours shared their heartbreak with the ECHO as the force confirmed the man was from the area where he was killed.

On Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, thousands shared messages of condolences with his family, friends and loved ones while slamming those responsible for his death.

He was called a "gorgeous soul" as many described the targeted attack as "cold-blooded", "horrifc" and "needless".

ECHO reader Toni Hughes said: "So sad.

"RIP gorgeous soul.

"What is this world coming to?"

"My heart goes out to this young man's family and friends."

Christine Quirk added: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected tonight in Boode Croft and Stockbridge Village.

"The boy's family first and foremost, such a terrible loss in such an horrendous way.

"The neighbours, the whole community will feel this.

"Strength to the boys in blue too in the hope they catch the individuals responsible."

Shortly after the killing, Detective Inspector Tony O'Brien shared his condolences with the man's family and once again issued a statement to condemn those who continue to use guns on our streets.

He said: "The investigation is in its early stages and extensive inquiries are being carried out to establish the motive and to identify those responsible.

"This was a cold blooded, targeted attack on a residential street which has taken away the life of a young man and tonight a family are mourning their tragic loss.

"The people responsible for this attack knew exactly what they were doing and they need to be caught.

"There is no place in Merseyside for firearms, or those who use them and bring fear to our communities.

"We need members of the public to come forward with information so we can keep our streets safe.

"I would urge anyone who saw anything, or who has any information, which could help us with our enquiries to contact us urgently.

"You may not think that the information you have is significant but it could help us with our enquiries."

A Home Office post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

Anyone who has any information which could help detectives with their inquiries is asked to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
