Outrage after banner comparing Nicola Sturgeon to Hitler appears outside official Bute residence

Edinburgh locals were left outraged after pictures of a "childish and offensive" banner comparing Nicola Sturgeon to Hitler reportedly ended up outside her official residence near Charlotte Square.

Graham Maxwell from Ravelston spotted the banner which was then shared by a friend online, who said:

"Someone has put this up on the railings at Charlotte Square, near Bute House in Edinburgh."

The "appalling" banner reportedly tied to railings near Bute House shows an image of the First Minister with a drawn-on moustache and likens her to Adolf Hitler.

The shocking banner reads: "Herr Sturgeon for Fuhrer - Ve will keep Scotland in Lochdown until the UK gives ME vot I vont.

"Vote for me to kill the economy."

Many Edinburgh locals responded with outrage after the picture of the banner was shared on Facebook.

One person said: "Isn't this considered obscene material due to the Nazi references?"

Another local said: "Unbelievable, this is just wrong!"

A third exclaimed:" Someone went to a lot of trouble to have this piece of garbage made."

Nicola Sturgeon announced a raft of lockdown easing measures to aid the Scottish economy earlier today, including allowing beer gardens to reopen fro 6 July, and hairdressers, cinemas and a range of other businesses from 15 July.

Edinburgh Live have reached out to the Scottish government and Edinburgh city council for comment.
