So far this year, more than 25,000 people have risked their lives by crossing the English Channel.
The authorities were warned repeatedly that this would one day result in loss of life.
That tragedy has now come to pass.
What makes these deaths all the more heart-breaking is they could have been avoided.

Everyone accepts there is no simple solution to solving the migrant crisis but it is clear that the efforts by the UK and French governments have been ineffective and inadequate.
They need to stop blaming each other, and start working together before more innocent people die.
