I was able to further deepen my relationship of trust with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which is Japan's friend and strategic partner. I will continue to engage in summit diplomacy to steadily realize a free and open Indo-Pacific.

I strongly oppose any acts that would raise tensions in the area. It is important to resolve disputes peacefully based on international law without resorting to force or coercion.
-- On releasing "treated water" containing radioactive material from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant:
I cannot continue postponing a decision without deciding on a policy. As the government, we would like to decide on a course of action responsibly as soon as possible. The government will also take measures to deal with harmful rumors related to the treated water.
-- On the Science Council of Japan:
Since the SCJ is a government organization with an annual budget of 1 billion yen and appointed members are public servants, it should be an entity that gains the understanding of the public. SCJ Chairman Takaaki Kajita and I agreed to improve the SCJ.
-- On the extraordinary Diet session to start Oct. 26:
I will present my views on the post-coronavirus world in my policy speech to the Diet.
