Outlet celebrates its 21st birthday

Livingston Designer Outlet is celebrating its 21st birthday.

The shopping centre opened its doors for the very first time in October 2000 and has welcomed millions of shoppers, provided employment for several thousand residents of West Lothian and become home to many of the biggest global fashion and lifestyle brands.

It boasts M&S, Nike Factory Store, Next and Adidas, Scotland’s first stand-alone Puma, Police and Samsonite whilst also being home to Scotland’s only Under Armour, Lindt, Guess Champion and Cosmetics Company Store.

Other stores include Kurt Geiger, Ted Baker and Tommy Hilfiger, North Face, New Balance and Adidas, Barbour and Molton Brown all offering discounts of up to 60 per cent off regular retail prices.

It also has an eight-screen Vue cinema and indoor golf attraction.

Most recently the outlet has welcomed several new additions to its line-up.

Outlet bosses say through a combination of attracting new exciting brands and investing over £7m in a mall refurbishment project the destination has tapped into a demand for experience.

The promise of always finding great savings on desirable labels underpins the enduring attraction of outlet shopping and Livingston is no exception.

Karen Stewart, outlet manager said: “People forget that retail is a dynamic sector which thrives on change and after 21 years of trading we are extremely proud of what we have created - a welcoming destination with a genuine sense of aspiration.

“A trip to Livingston delivers many of the feelings that can’t be replicated online. We have a guest culture that has learned from the hospitality industry and have been softening our centre to make it as inviting as possible.

“As we reach our 21st birthday we are delighted to look forward to a new chapter in our future where our promotions become more sustainable, our charitable activities take centre stage and our events and experiences become more immersive. We are planning events to celebrate the destination we have created and show that bricks and mortar retail is alive and well."

Since reopening post lockdown in April 2021 the outlet has already delivered a strong performance. The last 18 months have been challenging for many retail businesses but the appeal for premium discount shopping has never been stronger as it fuses a leisurely experience with the thrill of physical shopping.

In the last six months Livingston Designer Outlet has launched a new ‘How to Style’ series working with some of Scotland’s leading influencers across the fashion, fitness and lifestyle sectors to share their shopping ‘hauls’ and top picks to inspire and showcase the best product available at the outlet.
