Outlander star Sam Heughan reveals delight at getting battered by Vin Diesel


Sam Heughan has revealed he was thrilled to be ­battered by Vin ­Diesel in his first comic-book role.

The Outlander hunk was floored by his action man co-star in fantasy drama Bloodshot, which is released this month.

Sam plays ­villain Jimmy Dalton, who tries to stop ­bionically enhanced soldier Ray Garrison (Vin) in the caper. The 39-year-old is enjoying playing the bad guy after six years as ­Highlander Jamie Fraser in Outlander.

He said: “I was so excited by it. How can you turn down an action movie with Vin Diesel?

“It was great. I get to fight him a lot, so, hopefully, people enjoy that. I had to work out a lot.

“It’s a very physical role but I really loved it.” Marine Ray is resurrected by a team of scientists after he and his wife are murdered.

Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman killing machine - Bloodshot.

At first, he can’t recall anything from his former life but then his memories come flooding back and he discovers he has been manipulated.

Sam added: “Hopefully, fans will see a ­completely different side to me and to some of the characters I’ve been playing recently.”

The actor is also due to play screen legend Paul Newman in An Unquiet Life.

Heughan said: “I don’t think I look like Newman but I thought I could capture a bit of the essence of him. He had an energy and rhythm to him I tried to emulate.”
