Outlander star Sam Heughan passes motorbike test thanks to help from Rutherglen instructor

The star of smash hit TV show ‘Outlander’ has landed his licence to ride, thanks to some help from a Rutherglen instructor.

Sam Heughan, 40, passed his full motorbike test last week after almost a year of lessons at Bikerite Rider Training on Seath Road.

Galloway-born Sam did his compulsory basic training course at the training centre in 2018 and has spent the last week training prior to his test at the centre.

Bikerite owner Roy McCulloch said: “Sam had been training with us for the best part of a year but, due to his acting commitments and then Covid-19, he had to stop for ages.

“He completed his second part in Rutherglen after passing his first part, manoeuvring, easily before the lockdown.

“He was nervous, like anyone would be, but being an actor he was able to get on top of that and he is more than capable.

“He was delighted to pass. He’s a really nice and down-to-earth guy. He’s looking for a bike now so he’ll be on the road in no time.”

Roy said his staff also recently worked with ‘Braveheart’ star David O’Hara.

He added: “The actors and Armed Forces are always good students as they are good at taking direction.”
