Outlander star Sam Heughan launches his own whisky The Sassenach on US chat show

Outlander star Sam Heughan launched his own brand whisky while being interviewed on an American chat show.

The actor brought along a bottle of the The Sassenach to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" ahead of its US launch on March 2.

The host tells the 39-year-old there's now proof that he's a 'fully fledged Scot' as he whips out a bottle of the luxurious looking Scotch.

Heughan, who was born in Balmaclellan and brought up in New Galloway, said it's something he's been working on for a long time and is 'very proud' of his creation.

 

He described the drink saying it “sounds good and tastes better”.

Before adding: “That’s why I’m here — I’ve come to drink whisky with you, basically.”

Host Colbert poured the pair a 'wee half' each of The Sassenach before handing Heughan his on the rocks.

Sam looked horrified when host Stephen Colbert topped up his drink with a can of lemonade.

The actor, best known for his acclaimed role as Jamie Fraser in the Starz series Outlander, announced the launch of his new project on January 25.

Posting on his Instagram, he wrote: "Happy Burns Day from sunny California!

 

"I’m proud to announce the release of the Limited Edition – Sassenach Whisky.

"The Sassenach will be available in the US on March 2nd 2020 followed by our European and Canadian release.

"On this very special day however, I’m excited to share with you that a Limited “Burns Night” release is available now in the state of California.

"I can’t wait for you to try it and makes sure to tag me when you have your first dram!!! Slainte!
