Outlander star Sam Heughan attends Black Lives Matter protest at Glasgow Green

Thousands of people descended on Glasgow Green on Sunday for the Black Lives Matter protest.

Among those spotted at the anti-racism protest was none other than Outlander star Sam Heughan.

The 40-year-old actor was pictured among the crowd with a scarf over his face.

He shared pictures from the event on his Instagram, writing: "Standing solidarity, great turnout and peaceful but determined protest.

"Equality, justice for all (majority had masks and were being careful. Obviously hard to social distance in a crowd but everyone very respectful. Was a tough decision to break lock down but felt we had to show our support and hopefully everyone is safe)."

Crowds were praised for their efforts to adhere to social distancing, despite ignoring advice to not attend mass protests.

Assistant Chief Constable Kenny MacDonald said: "I would like to thank those who did attend for adhering to the physical-distancing measures where possible, and protesting in a peaceful manner."

The event voiced solidarity with protests in the United States as well as protesting against racism in Scotland and Glasgow.

A protest also took place in Edinburgh and was attended by thousands - including award-winning singer Lewis Capaldi.
