Outlander season six has officially begun filming

With this Droughtlander going on for longer than most, it feels like an age since we had our last update about season six.

All had gone quiet after the cast offered updates from the Outlander costume department over the festive period.

However, it finally looks as though filming for the new season is under way after producer Matthew B. Roberts confirmed they are ready to go in an interview with Elle magazine.

Sam Heughan has also confirmed that the Outlander crew are back, posting on his Twitter: "Feel very fortunate to be working right now, production are ensuring everyone is safe and protected. Now just need to deal with the snow...."

Speaking about the challenges for filming during a pandemic, Matthew confirmed that they are doing everything they can to keep the cast and crew safe, while ensuring that the script and filming process is affected as little as possible.

"I didn't want me or the staff changing what the story is for COVID," he explained.

"We have a lot of intimate scenes - that's where we live and breathe."

A big part of the process will be a rigorous testing regime with the show's bosses spending more than £150,000 building a private Covid testing centre at their Scottish studios.

Matthew explained: "We had to figure out how to make sure we tested everybody a million times before they walked onto set and keep that bubble as safe as possible."

The top producer explained that other measures will include limiting the number of extras and staff on set and utilising special effects to fill out any gaps.

Speaking about what people can expect, he confirmed the American revolution with play a big part this season, adding: "You have a foundation and when that foundation is shaken and there is a revolution, you have to deal with it. That's kind of the theme of the season."

Comedian and recent die hard convert Josh Pray has already taken to social media to declare his delight at the news.

He declared: "I told you that the drought wouldn't last that long. Starz felt sorry for us and said: 'You know what we gotta give them what they desire, what they require, what they need, what feeds them.

"Can you all please speed up the process though. 'Cause I'm ready to watch stuff, I'm ready to hold my pillow and scream at the TV."

Elle also confirmed the premiere episode is called Echoes and that Sam and Caitriona will be joining Matthew in the producer's chair, as well as on set, this season.

Though no date has been set for when season six will be aired, the fact that they are back filming will come as a relief for fans who have had to wait a very long time for this latest season.

Lets hope we don't have to wait much longer.
