Outlander's Sam Heughan shares series of baby-faced throwback snaps - and he's far from Jamie Fraser

Sam Heughan fans were delighted as a series of throwback photos of him emerged online - and the baby-faced Scots boy looks unrecognisable to the hunky Jamie Fraser we know and love.

The Outlander star, 40, took part in an virtual interview with the Edinburgh Steiner School - where he studied over 20 years ago - and took a trip down memory lane as he looked back on the start of his career.

During the interview, fans were given a treat as throwback pictures show a baby-faced Sam surrounded by his fellow students.

And Sam, who is originally from Balmaclellan in Dumfries, looks extremely different from the red-headed Jamie Fraser we all know and love so much.

Sam, who is currently isolating in Hawaii, spoke fondly of his time at the school. He said: "Looking back on it, It was a really good time, a really warm time, it felt like a really safe environment. There was a real bond between not just the teachers but the students too."

He said he realised while performing in Prodigious Snob at Steiner, that he knew that acting was something he wanted to do. He said: "There was another production, Prodigious Snob, to be honest, if there was ever a point in my career where maybe I kind of felt something like 'oh I enjoy this' it was probably that. I think there was just a moment there where I thought 'this is exciting, I want to discover more about this'."

The school say their aim is to develop responsible, free-thinking young people who can contribute to society with initiative and purpose.

And Sam has definitely achieved that. As well as being a successful actor, he continues to work with different charities and has also launched his own brand of whisky 'Sassenach' which has already won a global award.

Sam said: "As an actor you get to use your voice a little bit, and I'm so pleased that I am able to - I created an online fitness service called My Peak Challenge to change your lifestyle and create healthy habits, but while you're helping yourself, you're helping others. Fifty per cent of all the proceeds go to charity, we've raised over five million dollars. We've also got testicular cancer awareness in Scotland."
