Outlander's Sam Heughan's odds slashed by bookies to be the next James Bond

With Outlander star Sam Heughan showing off his action star status in films like Bloodshot and SAS: Red Notice and recently hinting that he'd be interested in taking up the mantle of 007 it appears the bookies have taken notice.

The Scots star, who has already starred as a British agent in the Spy Who Dumped Me, recently spoke to Esquire magazine about his desire to play James Bond.

Now, leading bookmakers Betway have slashed the odds of him replacing Daniel Craig in the iconic role from 7/1 to 3/1.

Only Tom Hardy (2/1) and James Norton (5/2) have shorter odds in the race to secure the part.

Betway’s Chad Yeomans said: “Scottish actor Sam Heughan has dropped a not-too-subtle hint that he's gunning for the 007 role, while promoting his new film SAS: Red Notice.

"Following the comments, the Outlander stars odds to be Daniel Craig’s replacement have been dramatically cut."

A poll carried out by Radio Times last year saw Sam beat the likes of Tom Hardy and Idris Elba as the choice to take on the coveted spy role.

The Men in Kilts star has been consistently linked with the role and previously said to Jimmy Fallon, on the Tonight Show, that it was time for another "Scottish bond", but joked that he wasn't sure that Bond "could be ginger".

Current Bond, Daniel Craig's 15-year stint as the international spy will come to an end when No Time to Die is released in cinemas later this year.

Sam Heughan latest film SAS: Red Notice could further cement his claim with the Scots star taking on the mantle of a BritishSpecial Forces operative who takes on a group of terrorists in the Channel Tunnel.
