Outlander's Sam Heughan claims Everest film with Ewan McGregor 'not happening'

Outlander's Sam Heughan claims the Everest film with Ewan McGregor and Mark Strong will not go ahead for the foreseeable after schedule issues.

The Scots actor was meant to be shooting for Doug Liman’s movie Everest in the UK and Italy from January this year, however he has been in New Zealand for Men In Kilts and Ewan McGregor has also been on the set of Raymond and Ray.

The movie, written by Sheldon Turner, whose credits include Up In The Air, was inspired by Jeffrey Archer novel Paths Of Glory and in 2011, had Tom Hardy was attached to it.

McGregor takes the lead of George Mallory, who took part in the first three British expeditions to Mount Everest, beginning in 1921.

Strong plays Arthur Hinks of the Royal Geographic Society.

Dumfries-born Heughan was billed to play eccentric Australian rival George Finch.

However he revealed in a chat with Zoe Ball on Radio 2 on Tuesday morning that the movie is not happening - at the moment.

He told her: "So it just hit me where it hurts. We were supposed to be shooting this fantastic movie about Everest. Yeah, unfortunately, it's not happening at the moment.

"But who knows in the future it might. It's just schedules. No, that's fine. I'll just go and jump off a cliff right now, a very high Everest cliff."

The production lost its female lead Juno Temple, who was said to have temporarily shelved the project, and according to sources in Production Weekly filming should have begun in September.

Heughan meantime has talked about the new season six of Outlander, the virtual premiere of which will be streamed online across the globe on Friday ahead of the episode one on Sunday.

He said he feels lucky he doesn't have to wear a corset like some of the female stars on the series.

He added: "A lot of the costumes are pretty authentic actually. And I have to say I'm pretty lucky because I don't have to wear a corset or not yet.

"One day I might have to when it's all gone it's all gone south but but the women on our show they have to wear these corsets and I don't know how they do it."
