Outlander's Sam Heughan admits he and Caitriona Balfe turned up to work drunk after 'whisky tasting'

Outlander star Sam Heughan has recalled the time he and Caitriona Balfe were still drunk from the night before during a script read through.

And the actor also admitted that his former costar Duncan Lacroix fell through a table during the night of alcohol infused debauchery.

Sam told the Bourbon With Friends podcast the carnage began at costar Graham McTavish's house.

He said: "We had a whisky 'tasting' at his house but first of all we went to a Japanese restaurant and drank our body weight in beer and saki and then did the whisky tasting."

He recalled: "I think we had about five whiskies, Glenfarg was one of them, real proper monsters.

"Everyone was hammered. Duncan fell through a table and I don't know what else happened.

He added: "The next day while Graham was in his bed sleeping we, the rest of the cast, were at work, doing a read through and I literally couldn't speak.

"I was trying to focus. My co-star Caitriona bless her. I think the only reason I got through it was I worried about her.

Sam Heughan talked about his love of whisky on Bourbon With Friends podcast (Sam Heughan)

"I thought she was going to fall over.

"One of the other guys had a panic attack. I believe Duncan found a book of Outlander and threw it at one of the producers. It was a good night."

Sam said: "The best time with whisky is when you are on the islands or up north of Scotland. It's just fun. Its about sharing the experience,

In Sam's book he seems to recall the same night which seems to have taken place in Graham's Edinburgh apartment during season 1.

He said of the time: 'We were definitely still ‘aff our heids’ drunk."
