Outlander's Graham McTavish set for role in Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon

Outlander star Graham McTavish is set to join another glittering fantasy franchise, after he revealed he is set for a role in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series.

The Scots star is beginning to make a name for himself starring in hugely popular film and tv shows based on some of the world's favourite fantasy novels.

Best known as war chief Dougal MacKenzie in Outlander, he has also starred as the dwarf Dwalin in the film adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s classic story, The Hobbit.

He has also just recently joined the cast for season two of The Witcher, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's hit novel series.

Graham will join fellow British actors Emma D'Arcy and Matt Smith on set (HBO)

Now, he has let slip in an interview with a magazine that he is set to join the cast for the prequel to the hugely popular Game of Thrones.

He has been given an unrevealed role in House of the Dragon, which is set centuries before the current GOT timeline and will focus on a burgeoning civil war between Daenerys Targaryen’s ancestors.

In an interview with Stylist, McTavish confirmed the rumour that he would be part of the new show, he said: “I’m enjoying that, yes. I’m really having a lot of fun. We’ve just started. It’s a very big project, so we’re getting to know each other.

"They’re lovely people. It’s great, but I can’t tell you too much. I can’t tell you really anything about the story! But it involves a lot of dragons.”

Graham has joined the likes of Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Steve Toussaint and Rhys Ifans on set.

However, fellow Outlander and Men in Kilts star Sam Heughan won't (yet) be joining him, after he joked: “Am I in it?”

To which Graham jokingly replied:“So far, no. And I have been waiting… I have to say ‘Where is Sam?’ because it’s always in my contract now.”

The pair have just finished up enjoying the reception of their new travel series Men in Kilts, with Sam returning to film Outlander season six and it yet to be confirmed if Graham will once again be joining him.
