David Berry, known for his role as Lord John Grey in the hit series Outlander, is set to star in a new R-rated wedding comedy called Something Blue. The project marks a significant shift from his usual period drama roles, as he steps into modern-day comedy territory.
According to Deadline, the movie is being developed by British writer and director Gary Sinyor, who is returning to make his first US-based film since working with Renée Zellweger on The Bachelor in 1999. The story is autobiographical, focusing on a man entering his second marriage while his bride experiences her first wedding.
Berry, who gained fame for his performances in Outlander and A Place To Call Home, brings what Sinyor describes as a “laidback Aussie charm which conflicts superbly with the rude chaos that surrounds him in the project.”
Director plans to blend social media stars with established actors
The production team is currently in talks with financiers to secure funding for the project. Meanwhile, they are actively searching for an actress to play Berry’s bride in the film. Sinyor has expressed interest in casting both established actors and social media personalities, seeing this as an opportunity for online talents to break into mainstream cinema.

This isn’t the first time Berry and Sinyor have worked together. They recently collaborated on the TV series Hapless, which is currently available to stream on Peacock in the United States and Prime Video in the United Kingdom.
Sinyor has expressed his enthusiasm about returning to film in the United States, despite better financial incentives being offered elsewhere. He believes in supporting the US film industry, particularly in the comedy genre, which he feels has been somewhat neglected by Hollywood in recent years.
The project aims to bring back the tradition of “laugh-out-loud comedy” to Hollywood, with plans to shoot on location in the United States. While no specific filming dates have been announced, the project is actively moving forward in its development phase, with discussions ongoing with potential financiers.
