Outlander fans furious as hit TV show set to leave Amazon Prime

Television series Outlander will soon no longer be broadcast on Amazon Prime in the UK, and will instead move to streaming service Starzplay.

The move to the new streaming service - which is the programme's home in the US - was announced in a tweet from its official account.

Lead actor Sam Heughan also tweeted about the news, writing: "I am excited to announce that Strazplay is not only the home of Men in Kilts.

"But it will also be the new home for that other show set in Scotland, Outlander. Stay tuned to Starzplay for all the latest news.

"Welcome home Sassenach."

However, many fans of the historical drama have expressed their disappointment with the move, as Starzplay is not as widely used as Amazon's streaming service.

One passionate viewer tweeted: "I feel betrayed, have the books, DVD’s, been to conventions and bought lots of memorabilia, and the audio books, can’t cancel Prime as my family watch it, this is so sad as usual the USA get first dibs"

Another wrote: "It’s crazy! I am a long term fan, and fear I won’t be able to watch it now. I already pay for a TV license, Virgin, Netflix & Prime. All of which we use regularly so won’t cancel to swap for Starz. Outlander is the only show I would watch on Starz too."

"BETRAYED THE FANS HAVE BEEN BETRAYED WE ARE FURIOUS," vented a third.

Many fans were unhappy with the move to Starzplay in particular, citing its supposed lack of quality content.

"Nothing else on Starz worth watching," one wrote.

A second tweeted: "There is nothing on Starz worth watching but currently Men in Kilts and obviously outlander from the end of the year," referring to a documentary show also starring Sam Heughan.

But how can you watch Outlander now and how much does Starzplay cost?

As reported by Glasgow Live, whilst you can technically watch Outlander through Amazon Prime, it does require a subscription through the StarzPlay app which will cost more per month in additon to your Amazon Prime fee as the app is not part of the deal.

Currently fans can sign up to StarzPlay UK for £1.99 per month for six months with the offer available until October 6. After this it will jump to £4.99 per month and you can cancel at any time.

The show will continue to stream on Prime Video until later this year after it moves to its new home.
