Outlander celebrates eight years on our screens with series of throwback behind the scenes snaps

It's hard to believe that eight years ago today, Outlander first aired on our screens.

It is safe to say that fans have been on quite the journey with the cast and crew of the hit show which stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. Filming for season seven is currently underway, as it was delayed due to the pandemic.

The show's story line has spanned over 20 year, and has really seen characters grow and develop. To celebrate the special milestone, the official Outlander Instagram account posted some behind the scenes snaps from years gone by, and cast members looks so young in some of the photos from season one.

Alongside an array of snaps from the first season, they wrote: "On August 9, 2014 our incredible show came into the world. Here’s to all the #Outlander cast, crew, and fans who have made the last eight years special."

The first picture shows Caitriona on set as Claire in Inverness in the early episodes, before she went through the standing stones. The second picture shows Sam Heughan on his horse as Jamie Fraser shortly before him and Claire meet for the first time.

Other snaps show Caitriona clutching a hot water bottle as she shoots the famous travelling to Castle Leoch in the rain scene as Claire rides on a horse alongside Jamie. Other snaps show her lying on a stunt matt as she falls through the stones.

Fans were truly loving the snaps as they looked back to the first season. One wrote: the best series of all time." Another added: "Happy anniversary. Best show."

Another fan penned: "Awww. This show changed my life! Love this so much!!" While one wrote: "So grateful for this show! Happy 8 years OL!"

Filming for season seven is well under way following the explosive season six finale. The intense cliff-hanger saw Claire Fraser, played by Caitriona Balfe, wrongly imprisoned for the death of Malva Christie.

Viewers are gearing up to see the continuation of the episode after Jamie raced against time to try and rescue his wife from behind bars. Although Claire proclaimed her innocence, she had been wrongly accused as Malva was found dead in her garden.

Droughtlander is now back in full swing, as viewers patiently wait for the shows return in 2023 to see the real villain exposed. There is a lot of speculation surrounding the future of the beloved series, as Outlander hasn't been renewed for an eighth season yet - leaving fans scared the show will end after the seventh.
