Outlander Castle which doubles as Lallybroch set to reopen to visitors once again

A Scottish castle that is hugely popular with fans of the hit TV show Outlander fans is set to reopen for visitors.

Midhope Castle, which doubles as Lallybroch - the early home of Sam Heughan's character Jamie Fraser - was temporarily closed at the tail end of last year due to the travel restrictions put in place by the Scottish government.

The visitor destination featured as an exterior film setting during both Season 1 and 2 of Outlander.

Home to the Fraser family it is lovingly known as Lallybroch (meaning lazy tower) and is described by Claire (Caitriona Balfe) as "a handsome three-story manor of harled white stone"

The 16th-century townhouse, which lies just 30 miles outside of Edinburgh, is run by the Hopetoun Estate.

Posting on their Facebook page, the team who look after the site, stated: "We are delighted that Midhope Castle will re-open to visitors tomorrow, Friday 30th April."

They added that those looking to visit must pre-book their tickets in advance, they can be booked online here: https://hopetoun.co.uk/estate/outlander-at-hopetoun/

Plans were recently approved to build a new whisky distillery at the site of the castle.

Midhope Castle Distillery Company says the new project would transform the location and will draw "inspiration from historic features" at the site.

As well as building a whisky distillery site, the unveiled plans include restoring the castle to include visitor accommodation.

Originally know as Medhope Castle when it was first built in the 1450s - 60s by then laird of Medhope, John Martyne.

It recently found new life on Outlander after showrunner Ronald D. Moore decided that it fit the "mental image" that they had of Lallybroch - home to the Fraser family.

The development will be news to fans of the hit Starz show's ears, after many were dismayed to learn of its current dilapidated state.
