Outlander cast - where have you seen them before?

Outlander is a hit TV series which has attracted lots of visitors to Scotland but a few members of the cast have starred in many of our favourite soaps, dramas and comedy sketches prior to the hit show.

Our showbiz writer Kirsten McStay takes a look into our TV archives to see where we might have seen them before.

Jamie Fraser

Jamie Fraser is a much loved character by many across the globe, but before Sam Heughan played the iconic role, what else did he star in?

Sam actually made an appearance in River City back in 2005, in four episodes portraying Livingston FC footballer Andrew Murray who fell in love with Kelly-Marie.

The Scots actor also starred in an episode of Midsomer Murder and then went on to play Scott Nielson in Doctors for 21 episodes.

Dougal MacKenzie

Dougal MacKenzie is played by Glasgow-born actor Graham McTavish, and before starring in 19 episodes of Outlander, Graham has quite the television CV.

Graham played Ferguson in Prison Break (Fox)

Graham has been on many British soap cast sheets including The Bill, Casualty, Doctors, Heartbeat and Taggart but he also starred in Netflix favourite Prison Break for four episodes as character Ferguson.

John Quincy

Starring in the most recent series of the hit show, mountain man John Quincy is played by Welsh actor Kyle Rees.

John befriends Jamie and Claire shortly after their arrival in North Carolina.

Kyle Rees played Blue in Hollyoaks (C4)

Prior to his role as John, Kyle played drug dealer Blue in Hollyoaks in 2009.

He also played Carl in Bafta winning movie Pride.

Roger Wakefield (MacKenzie)

Roger is the son of Reverend Wakefield and [spoiler alert] goes on to marry Jamie and Claire's daughter Brianna.

Roger is played by actor Richard Rankin who is best known for starring in Scottish sketch show Burnistoun.

He has also starred in Taggart, Silent Witness and The Last Kingdom.

Mrs Fitzgibbons

In series one, Mrs Fitzgibbons takes Claire under her wing when she arrives at Castle Leoch but where have we seen her before?

Annette played Aunt Babe (BBC)

Of course Annette Badland played Walford villain Aunt Babe in EastEnders back in 2014 but she has also starred as Angela in hit drama Bad Girls, as well as Doctor Who and has most recently played Mrs Zielinski in BBC's Doctors.

Mrs Graham

Tracey Wilkinson plays Reverend Wakefield's housekeeper who gives Claire a palm reading which tells her that her path in life is split.

Tracey is best known for her role as a prison officer in ITV drama Bad Girls as G-Wing's Di Barker.

Di went on to be an inmate at the 'Larkhall' prison after allegedly killing her husband Jim Fenner.

The English actress also played the geography teacher in hit film Billy Elliot.

All five seasons of Outlander are available on Amazon Prime.
