Outlander author Diana Gabaldon to travel to Scotland for 'an audience with' event

Diana Gabaldon is making her way to Scotland

DIANA Gabaldon is to travel to Scotland to be interviewed by historical writer Sarah Fraser.

The Outlander creator will visit Eden Court in Inverness this October following her appearance at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in July.

The US author’s visit comes after the release of the ninth book in the Outlander series Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.

Fraser, who has a PHD in “obscene Gaelic poetry” is a writer of Scottish history, having written the best-selling book The Last Highlander.

The English author, who lives in the Highlands and married into clan Fraser of Lovat, has also appeared in the TV series Men in Kilts with Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Graham MacTavish.

Fraser said she is "very excited" to be interviewing Gabaldon.

“As a fellow writer, I am in awe of her achievements," she said. "There are few writers in the world who have achieved her sales.

“Her vision is panoramic, stretching from the Highlands to the fledgling United States.

“On top of that, Diana’s ability to create scenes of huge emotional power means that history and personal narrative are woven together to give stories of great scale and also intimacy. She is extraordinary.”

The event is organized by the Inverness Outlanders fan group.

The group’s chair, Sinead Robertson, said: “We are sure that Sarah, who is also a member of our group, will bring a very special insight into her discussions with Diana Gabaldon.

“They are both historical authors who know so much about Scotland, the Highlands, Clan Fraser of Lovat and who both weave stories of love and hate, hope and fear, power and weakness, peace and war, friendship and enmity into their work.

“We can’t wait to hear what topics they touch on and, of course, there is a chance for the audience to ask their own questions of Diana Gabaldon at the end of the evening.

“Diana will also be doing a book signing after the event finishes.”

Organisers say fans have been snapping up tickets for the event from around the UK and from as far afield as Australia, US, Sweden and Germany.
