Outgoing Perth and Kinross chief executive praised for key role during pandemic and in Stone of Destiny bid

Council leader Murray Lyle has thanked outgoing chief executive Karen Reid for the “fantastic” job she has done leading Perth and Kinross Council.

The chief executive is due to finish up on Friday, January 29 after almost two and half years with the council.

He told the Perthshire Advertiser she played a big part in bringing home the Stone of Destiny - the focal point of the £26.5 million transformation of Perth City Hall - “making Perth and Kinross an even better place to live and work.”

Mrs Reid will take up her new role as chief executive of NHS Education for Scotland (NES) on Monday, February 1.

Cllr Lyle said: “I worked closely with Karen and was impressed by both her vision and her hard work.

“She has been a fantastic leader of staff at the council and will be able to look back on her legacy with real pride and the knowledge that her achievements will help secure Perth and Kinross ’s future prosperity for years to come.

“Projects like the Cross Tay Link Road and the transformation of Perth City Hall into a £26.5 million museum that will be home to the Stone of Destiny will be fundamental to making Perth and Kinross an even better place to live and work.”

Councillor Lyle added: “Karen also led the council through the start of the coronavirus pandemic, ensuring the council did everything in its power to help our most vulnerable residents.

“The last year has been an extremely challenging time for everyone, and Karen’s dedication and leadership was critical in our response to the pandemic.”

PKC is now advertising for someone to take the helm of the local authority.
