Outgoing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has expressed his gratitude to world leaders on Twitter, including U.S. President Donald Trump, with whom he has fostered a friendship.
"Our friendship with the United States has never been stronger thanks to our frequent visits and phone conversations," Abe posted on Twitter.
Abe also posted messages underlining the "Japan-U.S. honeymoon period."
"[My] friendship with Donald and our trusting relationship is very important to me," Abe tweeted. "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Donald and our friendship."
Abe also tweeted that the relationship between Japan and Canada has strengthened thanks to the friendship and trust he has built with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Using the nickname of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Abe showed his appreciation by tweeting, "I will never forget all of the fond memories I have with ScoMo."
Abe also tweeted a message of thanks to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
And without mentioning Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen by name, Abe tweeted, "I hope to further deepen our cooperation and exchange with Taiwan."
