Outgoing Bangkok governor clear favourite for re-election

Outgoing Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt is the clear favourite in the lead up to the Bangkok gubernatorial election on June 28, according to an opinion survey.

The National Institute of Development Administration said it surveyed 2,000 eligible voters in Bangkok by phone from June 2 to 4. They were asked who was their favourite candidate for city governor.

  • 67.30% of respondents mentioned Mr Chadchart.
  • 10.20% were uncertain.
  • 8.20% chose People’s Party’s candidate Chaiwat Sathawornwichit.
  • 7.30% favoured Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasook.
  • 3.10% picked Democrat Anucha Burapachaisri.
  • 1.55% looked at M.L. Kornkasiwat Kasemsri.

Askd for their favourites for the 50-seat Bangkok city council election, also on June 28,

  • 29.10% said they would vote for independent candidates.
  • 26.50% for People’s Party candidates.
  • 18.35% remained undecided.
  • 11.50% for Democrat candidates.
  • 6.05% each for Pheu Thai Life Long Tua and Khon Tham Ngan groups.
