Outerwear took centre stage at Coach's AW19 show during New York Fashion Week

Those looking to invest in a signature leather jacket next season need look no further than Coach.

At its latest catwalk show in New York, held in the American Stock Exchange Building, designer Stuart Vevers took the US superbrand’s 78-year history as a purveyor of leather goods and converted it into a series of trophy coats which will prove catnip to its millennial fan base.

Among the highlights were an oversized, logo-print fuzz gilet which opened the show, along with a peony pink leather varsity-style bomber.

Slick plaid car coats and clipped shearling jackets also played a starring role, while model ambassador Kaia Gerber made a strong case for making a space in your wardrobe for a leather fringed floral print bomber.

These came layered over feminine handkerchief hem dresses, printed with florals inspired by the work of cult American textile artist Kaffe Fassett - who was joined on the front row by new face of the brand Michael B Jordan and Chloe Grace Moretz - or teamed with studded jeans and slouch sweatshirts.

But while outerwear proved the hero of this catwalk collection, there was no shortage of new season arm candy either, including the debut of its Marleigh bowling bag which is available to shop straight from the catwalk.
