Outdoor summer yoga event happening in NI this August

An outdoor summer yoga event is happening in Northern Ireland next month.

The Woodland Trust NI is hosting the event at Corrog Wood to help raise funds for the Trust.

Jane Campbell who has been teaching yoga for 21 years  will lead the sessions at Corrog Wood, which will include a combination of gentle movement, breath awareness and stillness in a sequence of postures conducive to an outdoor practice.

Jane said: “Taking time out and connecting with nature is in itself healing and uplifting. I am planning to share a gentle practice with people of any ability, to enhance their experience in the woodland environment. We will take time to savour each pose to absorb the wellbeing benefits of our yoga practice.”

Lynsey Nixon of The Woodland Trust Northern Ireland added: “We are delighted to be able to offer an outdoor yoga event in one of our favourite woodlands. We want everyone to enjoy all the benefits of being outside in nature, and especially in the woods we look after in Northern Ireland. With yoga studios and gyms still closed due to the pandemic, this is a unique way to get your yoga fix with an experienced teacher present to guide you in person.”

While you enjoy your yoga class outdoors, at the same time you will also get vitamin D from exposure to sunlight. So it’s a win win for your health and self-care; just make sure to protect yourself from sunburn. For your own personal protection and hygiene, please bring your own mat, towel and refreshments. We are adhering to government recommendations and all participants will practice at a safe distance of at least 2metres apart.

Each yoga session will last 1 hour, including a warm up and cool down. There are four yoga events this summer, taking place at 11am on 1, 8, 15 and 22 August. Places are extremely limited, so make sure to book early to secure your spot on the mat. Come rain or shine, our yoga sessions will go ahead. However, pending any changes to government advice in relation to Covid-19, we reserve the right to cancel the class at short notice for your safety, in which case, you will receive a full refund.
