Outdoor play for kids is thwarted by road safety worries

Most disturbing survey of the week comes from English Nature, which found that children's contact with nature has halved in a generation, and that the overwhelming majority of kids now want more opportunities to play outdoors.

Given that 85% of adults questioned agreed that they would like children to play more ­outdoors, there shouldn't be a problem . . . if only road safety and concern about strangers were not seen as paramount.
