Outdoor markets, car showrooms and all shops can open in June

Boris Johnson has announced that outdoor markets, car showrooms and all shops will be able to open in June.

In tonight's daily briefing about the coronavirus crisis, the Prime Minister outlined the plan to ease more of the lockdown measures.

Mr Johnson said that outdoor markets and car showrooms would be able to open from June 1.

Then on June 15th all other shops will be allowed to reopen, with social distancing in place.

Mr Johnson said: “We are making progress, the indicators are heading in the right directions, we will set our formal assessment later this week of the five tests.

“But I can with confidence put the people on notice of the changes we want to make.

“It’s our intention to let outdoor markets and car showrooms return from June 1.

“We know transmission of the virus is lower outdoors, that means we can allow markets to reopen in a safe way.

“From June 15th we will allow all other non essential retail to reopen, this change will be contingent upon progress we make.

“We are publishing new guidance for retail sector, shops now have the time to implement this guidance before they open."

Mr Johnson also reiterated his intention to reopen primary schools for reception, Year 1 and Year 6 classes on June 1.

Followed by Year 10 and Year 12 on June 15th.
