An outdoor instructor has died after falling from a climbing spot at Snowdonia National Park. North Wales Police received reports that a man had fallen at Cneifion Arete near Llanberis in Gwynedd on Saturday, June 11.
The police force, Ogwen Valley mountain rescue team, and a coastguard rescue helicopter were called out on Saturday morning after a pair of climbers had reported finding a man's body at the foot of the climb. The mountaineer was flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor but sadly died. North Wales Police confirmed that the local coroner's office and the man's family have been informed.
According to a spokesman for the Ogwen Valley mountain rescue team the outdoor instructor had "many friends" in the rescue community. In a statement on their Facebook page on Monday they said: "At around 11.30am a pair of climbers intending to climb the Cneifion Arete reported finding a man's body at the foot of the climb.
"The team deployed to site and conducted first aid while the informants were brought down to base. The coastguard helicopter landed in the cwm and the casualty was lifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd as fast as possible but sadly did not survive.
"During the follow-up it was discovered the casualty was a local outdoor instructor with many friends in the rescue community including some on-site. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time."
A spokesman for North Wales Police added: "At around 11.16am on Saturday, June 11, we received a report that a man had fallen at Cneifion Arete near Llanberis.
