Outdoor event planned for adults with learning disabilities at Co Tyrone theatre

An outdoor event for adults with learning disabilities and their carers is set to take place next week at a theatre in Co Tyrone.

The popular ‘Reconnect’ programme will take place at the Alley Theatre in Strabane on September 11 and sees an evening of fun and entertainment with pop up performances, drama and music.

The event is one of a series of outdoor events organised by a number of local councils, in partnership with local health trusts and the Public Health Agency.

Alley Theatre venue manager Louise Boyce says she hopes the event is just as successful as some of those which have already run.

"The Alley Theatre is really delighted to be part of the Reconnect Summer Programme,” Louise said.

“The past year has been a very challenging time for everyone and people with learning disabilities have had to give up many of the social and educational activities that bring people together and provide opportunities to make friends in a positive and interactive way.

"The initiative aims to reconnect our Adults with Learning Disabilities and carers bringing them together in a fun, welcoming and safe environment.

“I have no doubt events such as these will have a major impact on improving health, physical and social wellbeing.

“As per Government Guidelines we will have safety measures in place and numbers are restricted due to social distancing."
