A new outdoor classroom has been created at the Shotts Healthy Living Centre.
The new outdoor facility will see a number of groups able to hold various activities outside under shelter thanks to the handy work of several volunteers.
The classroom, in the grounds of Getting Better Together Shotts (GBT), was put together by members of the local Men’s Shed, an organisation which helps men combat loneliness and isolation.
One of those men, Simon Fuller, told Lanarkshire Live : “It was a pleasure to be part of the project and my grand-daughter even helped us out as well.
“It was just nice to be out and doing something. I had been isolated at home for more than a year.
“My mental health was really suffering and I just needed something to get on with.
“I was put in touch with GBT and they got me in and from then on it has really helped me. Just being able to go out and have a chat with people has been great for me.”
One of the groups who will be using the classroom is Neighbourhood Networks, which supports vulnerable adults mainly with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health issues to live an independent life.
Jan Dearie, from the charity, told us : “A small thing like this makes a real difference for charities like ourselves.
“It means we are able to provide some services all year round for people who really need it.”
The classroom was paid for thanks to funding from Awards for All.
Kim McLean, from GBT, added: “We were delighted to receive funding but it is all down to the hard work of the likes of Simon and our Men’s Shed.
“Their work means so many groups will be able to use this facility throughout the winter months.”
