How does cosying up under the stars with a film overlooking one of the best beaches in Europe sound?
Pretty tempting, right! Well, this summer you'll be able to do just that as outdoor cinema returns to Bamburgh Castle.
The castle in Northumberland will provide the dramatic backdrop to some big screen action with four open-air cinema nights in August. And the film kicking off this summer season is local favourite Billy Elliott on August 12.

The rest of the programme is made up of musicals, with cult classic the Rocky Horror Picture Show on August 13, followed by Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again and the Blues Brothers on the 27th and 28th of the month. In previous years, the castle has screened Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman to sell out crowds, while the first Mamma Mia movie was on last August.
One fan of Bamburgh Castle was especially delighted on Facebook, saying: "One of my favourite films, at my favourite place, the day before my birthday!" while another said: "We need to go see Mamma Mia!"
Karen Larkin, Events Manager at Bamburgh Castle, said: "We are excited to announce this year’s open air cinema screenings at Bamburgh Castle. With Bamburgh Castle as the most spectacular backdrop and the eye-popping views of the coast as the sun sets, it’s not surprising that we’re rated as one of the most beautiful outdoor cinemas in the country.
"This year’s screenings promise to be a real feel-good line up, where you can settle back on the castle lawn on a deckchair while the fizz flows and sing along as the sun sets above the castle for a glorious summer evening. Our cinema nights are always massively popular and sell out quickly, so we recommend early booking."
Tickets are £22 and guests are asked to bring their own picnic chairs, while food and drinks are available on site. For more information, check out Bamburgh Castle's What's On page.
