A group of people with learning disabilities in Perthshire are getting to exhibit their work in a major European city.
The talented group from Corbenic Camphill Community near Dunkeld will travel out to Budapest next month to see their first international exhibition in the city’s Brut Gallery.
Individuals at the community are helped to flourish through a number of different workshops, including a craft workshop which includes skills such as weaving, paper making and printing.
However, last year it was decided to introduce a drawing and painting day, which encouraged residents to go out into the garden and sketch. The results of which are some of the paintings going on display in Budapest.
Monica Hand from Corbenic Camphill Community said: “We decided last year to introduce a drawing and painting day either working from still life, nature books or going out into the gardens to sketch.
“This has really paid off and the craft team is delighted to be having its first international exhibition in the Brut Gallery in Budapest, running from September 11 to October 25.”
She continued: “We have also invited three of Garvald Artists in Edinburgh to join us. We will be exhibiting 43 pictures by 13 artists including 20 lino prints, 10 of which were designed and printed by our pottery workshop, run by Jakub Verner.
“Three of the artists will be travelling with myself and Jisol Shin to the opening on September 11 in Budapest.
“Two of the artists, Suzanne Rae and Hector MacMillan are also both delighted to have their work chosen by The John Muir Trust to be printed on their merchandise this year.”
After the trip to Budapest, the artists from Corbenic Camphill Community will be working towards their Christmas show and exhibiting their work in the Corbenic Shop in Dunkeld throughout December.
