The outbound Dan Ryan Expressway was shut down for over an hour Friday evening for a vehicle crash and fire on the South Side.

Authorities responded about 3:48 p.m. to the outbound expressway near 18th Street for a three-car crash and a possible rollover, according to Illinois State Police. One of the vehicles caught fire.

All outbound lanes of the expressway were closed while firefighters and police responded, state police said. The lanes were reopened at 4:57 p.m.

An adult and child were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, state police and a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Dept. said.

It was unclear what caused the crash.
