'Out of control' Uber Eats drivers are getting into fights at a McDonald's, say customers

Uber Eats has responded to claims its drivers have been getting into fights at McDonalds in Middleton , branding the alleged behaviour 'unacceptable'.

In recent weeks, dozens of complaints about the couriers have been posted online.

Many people have even contacted Uber and McDonalds directly, saying they are 'out of control', demanding something is done.

Customers and passers-by claim arguments and brawls have broken out between drivers inside the restaurant, often in front of terrified children.

Sometimes the rows have ended up spilling out onto the street, with some customers claiming to have been subjected to verbal abuse after confronting those involved.

The most recent is said to have happened on Easter Monday.

But it's not just the driver's alleged behaviour that is causing problems.

During peak delivery times, the disabled parking bays at the front of the restaurant in Middleton Gardens are said to be taken up by couriers, leaving people with blue badges unable to find a space.

One man said it's the same every Friday, and when he asks them to move he gets ignored.

Others again say they have been shouted at and sworn at when challenging the drivers for parking in the spaces, or on double yellow lines.

There are now calls for both Uber Eats and McDonalds to stop offering the service in Middleton.

Speaking on behalf of both companies, an Uber Eats spokeswoman said it had contacted all couriers regarding the issue.

They said in a statement: "The safety of our customers and the general public is a top priority for Uber Eats.

"The alleged behaviour is unacceptable.

"We have contacted all couriers in the area and reminded them of the behaviour expected from everyone who uses the app.

"There is no place for violence or anti-social behaviour in our communities."
