'Out of control' - Nottingham Forest old boy reveals £5.4m poker losses

Former Nottingham Forest striker Nicklas Bendtner has revaled he lost more than £5million playing poker - as a teenager.

The Danish forward scored two goals in 17 appearances for the Reds during a brief spell at the City Ground during the 2016-17 season.

Bendtner made his name at Arsenal and it was during his time with the Gunners that he says he started having issues with gambling.

The 32-year-old made the confession on a Danish reality television show.

“I lost a lot of money, an unrealistic amount," he said.

“It’s hard to say how much it was in reality, but I’d estimate that it was almost 50 million Korona (around £5.4m).

"It was something that I was always in control of and I simply betted big sums of money.

“Sometimes in London, things would get out of control on a night and things could really have ended badly.

“Now I place smaller bets of 100 Korona (around £12).”

After leaving Forest, Bendtner went on to play for Rosenburg and FC Copenhagen, who released him in December.

He has also played for Birmingham City, Sunderland, Juventus and Wolfsburg.
