'Emergency': Charmhaven fire threat raised, Pacific Highway closed

Charmhaven fire

An out-of-control bushfire is burning at Charmhaven on the Central Coast.

The NSW Rural Fire Service has raised the threat of the fire to 'emergency' status level.

If you are in the area of Mona, Arizona and Allinga Hiawatha roads, it is too late to leave.

Residents are advised to seek shelter as the fire approaches.

Multiple crews and water-bombing aircraft are tackling the blaze, which is more than 80 hectares in size.

The fire is burning on the western side of the Pacific Highway.

The highway is closed in both directions between Goorama Ave and Lake Haven Drive.

A thick plume of smoke can be seen rising into the air from surrounding areas.

A video shot from the Northlakes shopping centre shows the fire burning to the south.

Charmhaven and Bluehaven residents are advised to monitor the conditions.
