Out of Al Horford running, Pistons sign forward Jon Leuer

ORLANDO, Fla. _ The Detroit Pistons have their stretch power forward.

And he won't be Al Horford.

Jon Leuer's agency, Priority Sports, announced Saturday afternoon on Twitter the 27-year-old power forward has agreed to a four-year deal with the Pistons.

A person with firsthand knowledge of the situation confirmed the contract will be worth $41 million.

Leuer, who stands 6 feet 10 and 228 pounds, is coming off a season in which he shot 38.2 percent (42-for-110) from 3-point range with the Phoenix Suns. He is a career 37.5 percent 3-point shooter.

Leuer, who played his college ball at Wisconsin, averaged 8.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 18.7 minutes over 67 games (27 starts) in 2015-16 with the Suns.

The agreement ends the pursuit of Horford.

Yahoo Sports and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Horford, an Atlanta Hawks free agent, will decide between the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards later Saturday.

ESPN.com reported Friday that Horford had a long day of meetings in Atlanta with the Celtics, Wizards, Rockets and a "mystery team."

The Pistons were that mystery team.

The Free Press reported months ago the Pistons would have serious interest in Horford, a Michigan native, during the free-agency moratorium, which began Friday morning at 12:01 a.m.

Horford, 30, would have fit nicely alongside Andre Drummond, who agreed Friday to a five-year deal that makes him the highest-paid player in Pistons franchise history.

But Leuer strengthens the Pistons bench.

Leuer was the 40th pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. The Pistons will be his fifth team in six NBA seasons. Along with playing for the Bucks and Suns, he has also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Memphis Grizzlies.
