Ousmane Dembele Barcelona contract update amid Dani Alves prediction and Liverpool transfer rumours

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said the club are looking to secure contract extensions for a number of players amid continued speculation surrounding Ousmane Dembele.

The France international winger has long been linked with a possible move to Liverpool and his deal at the Camp Nou is poised to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Dembele joined Barcelona in the summer of 2017 after the club sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, with ex-Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho joining him at the Catalan giants the following January.

The move hasn't worked out for either player, with Dembele seeing his progress with the La Liga outfit savaged by a litany of injury issues.

Some have questioned whether Barcelona will renew his terms with those fitness issues in mind; Dembele has only played played 25 minutes this season.

Asked about the contract status of a number of key players on Wednesday at the unveiling of new signing Dani Alves, Laporta said he's positive the extensions will be done.

"Hopefully we can achieve more renewals soon, talks are ongoing," he said, per Fabrizio Romano. "We're working on this."

In addition to Dembele, Barcelona are also seeking to tie down midfield prodigy Gavi and impressive young centre-back Ronald Araujo.

Alves, who has re-signed for the Blaugrana at 38 years old, was also asked about what kind of future he sees for Dembele.

"Dembele is an exceptional player who needs to understand that he is Barca and to believe that he is a great player, he can do many great things here," he said at his presentation, per Football Espana.
