Ousmane Dembele backed to leave Barcelona and secure Manchester United transfer

Brazil legend Rivaldo has backed Ousmane Dembele to sign for Manchester United and “prosper in the Premier League”.

Dembele has been linked with a move to Old Trafford by some reports this summer, with the Frenchman having failed to live up to expectations at Barcelona since making a £124million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

Injury problems have meant he has made just 74 appearances since, producing 19 goals in the process.

He has struggled to nail down a place in Barcelona’s first team, and has had to make do with coming off the bench in recent months, calling into question his future at the club.

And following the humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, sweeping changes are expected at the Camp Nou, and Dembele could prove to be one of them.

United are reported to be weighing up a potential deal for the winger and, speaking to Betfair, Rivaldo believes the 23-year-old would be a “good option” should the club miss out on Jadon Sancho.

“There are rumours about him leaving the club at the end of the season, but while he is around, the manager should use him,” Rivaldo said.

“Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in him after having difficulties in their bid to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

“Dembele could be a good option for United. He's very quick and talented, and I believe he could prosper in the Premier League.”
