An Ouseburn pub has thanked a customer for coming forward after they tested positive for coronavirus following a visit.
The Tyne Bar, the popular bar on Maling Street, will remain closed for deep cleaning on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson for the pub told customers on Facebook: "We have been contacted by a customer who wanted to let us know they have tested positive for Covid. We thank them for letting us know and wish them well.
"The person concerned was sitting in the beer garden on Sunday evening, 7pm-10pm, and was asymptomatic at the time. We are contacting other customers now through Track and Trace.
"As a precaution we will stay closed today for deep cleaning and we will reopen on Thursday.
"Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon."
The bar also closed its doors for an "extensive deep clean" two weeks ago, following a similar incident with a customer who had discovered they had the virus.
The closure comes on the day that new local restrictions, aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus, come into force in the North East.
The new rules could have a significant impact on pubs and bars, as they ban people from meeting anyone outside their own household or bubble at any indoor setting - whether a private home or a public venue.
However, it remains legal to meet friends or family who you don't live with in a pub garden or other outdoor setting. Public health advice does suggest people shouldn't meet up with others outdoors, and the rule of six does still apply.
