Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen admits she hasn't left the UK in 20 years

As lockdown eases across the country and travel restrictions begin to be lifted, many of us are eager to hop on a plane and enjoy a holiday outside of the United Kingdom after months of being limited to staycations.

However, one Brit who won't be dusting off her passport for a break away is Our Yorkshire Farm 's Amanda Owen.

Speaking as it was announced she would be working with hotel company Premier Inn to help the nation get a better night's sleep, the Yorkshire Shepherdess revealed she much prefers holidaying at home and hasn't been abroad in over 20 years!

"I don't go on holiday," the 46-year-old admitted when quizzed by The Mirror about her dream holiday destination.

"I guess it's just not conducive with our lives here and what we do. There is so much going on here with the animals and the tourists that it's not practical to go away on holiday."

The Channel 5 star went on to reveal that the last time she holidayed outside of the UK was back over 20 years ago during the foot and mouth outbreak that damaged the country's farming.

Back in 2001, 2,000 cases of the disease in farms across the British countryside were reported and over 6 million cows and sheep were killed in an eventually successful attempt to halt the disease.

Amanda, who lives on a traditional Yorkshire Dales hill farm with her husband Clive and their nine children, was one of the many impacted by the outbreak.

"Because of what happened (with foot and mouth disease), a lot of our sheep sadly had to be culled," she recalls.

"We decided we needed to get away and heel from it. It was so horrible."

"We went to India as it was one of the only places we could go to in the middle of winter that was really hot."

Amanda's trip to another continent didn't give her the travel bug as 20 years on, she still prefers to holiday at home.

"We take pleasure in where we are," she told us.

"It may sound boring but because of where we live, a tourist hotspot, it's nice to take the time to actually enjoy what we've got and switch off from work."

Amanda went on the describe her idyllic break, sharing what her and her family get up to: "We will swim in the river, the waterfalls - go out for horse rides. We always do something fun."

"I don't feel like we're missing out at all - it's just how we work and what we do."

And the bonus aspect of holidaying close by? No packing!

"The best thing is, because you are at home, it doesn't matter if you've forgotten something as you can just go back home to get it," she laughs as telling her staycation tales.

"Can you imagine packing up a car for nine people? Talk about needing a capsule wardrobe."

Amanda Owen has teamed up with Premier Inn to help the nation rest easy, by creating the brand's first ever video streaming platform, Ewe Tube, dedicated to encouraging sleep by digitally counting sheep. To check out Ewe Tube please see here .
