Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen struggles after moving to derelict cottage with Clive

The stars of Channel 5 show Our Yorkshire Farm have opened up about the difficulties they faced moving into a new cottage, as it turned out the building needed more renovation than they first thought.

The Owen family, who star in the popular Channel 5 reality show, don’t own Raveseat Farm where the show is set, but work these as tenant farmers.

The family decided to buy a derelict cottage nearby that they could then restore and have as somewhere to call their own.

But work has been delayed on the premises ad the couple wait for the local council to grant planning permission for the restoration to commence.

The VoiceOver for the show described the scenario, saying: “As tenant farmers, the family don’t own Ravenseat so they bought this dilapidated farmhouse as somewhere to call their own.

“Although, their hopes of renovating it are on hold as they await planning permission.”

Amanda raised worries about the planned renovation to husband Clive, saying: “I was worried some more of the roof had come in.”

Clive said: “We hoped to have had the roof on by now, before winter.”

“We’ll get there,” Amanda replied. “We just have to be patient.”

But Clive seemed unconvinced by this optimism, highlighting the many challenges the pair are facing to get the cottage habitable.

““Even somewhere as wet as this you need water,” he said. “This here, we need a drain or something here. It’s open purposely.”

Pointing out a nearby stream of water, Amanda said: “That water comes from somewhere and like at Ravenseat we’ve got a mile of pipe that goes from the top tank to the feeder tank.

“We’ve got really good water pressure because it’s coming from such a height.”

Clive replied “To tap into this water at this level is no good to us because you’d have to lift it up.”

After investigating the surrounding area near Aunty John’s, Amanda and Clive’s son found a water pipe that could provide a solution to the couple’s problems.

“That looks promising, you can see the water coming up out of the ground,” Clive said.

“So, that means it’s clean because it’s filtered naturally.”

“That is in a direct line,” Amanda said as she pointed down to Ravenseat before she asked her husband: “Does that mean we can have a power shower?”

Clive reassuringly responded: “Absolutely.”
