Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen shares secrets to keeping food costs down for 9 kids

Amanda Owen has shared how she feeds her large family without breaking the bank.

The Our Yorkshire Farm star, who shares nine children with estranged husband Clive Owen, admits she's always been mindful of the cost of food and will 'make lists and plan ahead' in order to cook economically and avoid hefty checkout totals at the supermarket.

Amanda - who recently ditched her wedding ring amid her recent marriage split - explains how she usually spends at least £150 a week when food shopping and admits she is 'a devil for the marked down section' when she visits the nearest supermarket to her, situated 30 miles away from her Yorkshire farm.

The Channel 5 star and her estranged husband Clive are parents to nine children together who, in descending order of age, are Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clemmie, and Nancy. The former couple first struck up a romance back in 1995, when Amanda visited Clive's farm in Ravenseat to ask for help.

Quizzed about how much she spends when food shopping, Amanda admits: "At least £150. Our nearest supermarkets are 30 miles away from our farm. I'm a devil for the marked down section.

"A few years ago I spent £1,000 on a cow so we don't have to buy milk, and our meat is from the farm," she adds when discussing the types of meals the Owen family usually enjoy.

She goes on to explain how she always has 'a big sack of potatoes and a big bag or rice' in her kitchen ready for if any friends turn up unexpected and need feeding, and gushes about the delights of leftovers - saying they make the best meals as they are 'warming and wholesome'.

Speaking with Closer magazine about the contents of her family fridge, Amanda explains: "With a big family, I've always been mindful of the cost of food, and I've taught them how to cook economically and well.

"My mantra is, look at what you've got and make something out of it. Don't focus on what you haven't got."

Earlier this month, Amanda opened up about her split from Clive on an episode of Steph's Packed Lunch, admitting breaking up with her husband after over two decades together was "a weird situation", before adding: "But we’re actually all just fine, just getting on with it."

The confirmation of Amanda and Clive's split in June came after months of rumours and speculation that the couple were having a rocky time in their marriage for most of this year.

Writing in a joint statement shared in June this year, the mum-of-nine said: "Clive and I have are sad to confirm that we have made the difficult decision to separate.

"This hasn't been easy, but we both believe it's the right choice for the future of our family."

The statement continued: "Although we are no longer a couple, we continue to work on the farm and co-parent together with our number one priority the happiness and well-being of our children."
