Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen reveals strict Christmas rule family must follow

Amanda Owen has share the one Christmas rule that she has for the family so that her and husband Clive can keep the big day under some control.

The 47-year-old star of Channel 5 series Our Yorkshire Farm has said that with nine children, they have to keep a strict eye on how they organise festivities otherwise it could become an expensive shambles.

The Yorkshire shepherdess spoke about their routine in the run up to the big day when appearing on Channel 5's Our Big Yorkshire Christmas on Sunday with the rest of family.

Along with The Yorkshire Vet and other reality stars from the channel's shows, Amanda revealed that she and Clive have to set limits to what their children are gifted at Christmas as the costs could quickly spiral.

As their children unwrapped presents, Amanda said that they keep gifts to a minimum and focus on what each child really wants rather than buying a plethora of presents.

The famous farmer said: "With a family of nine, we don't go overboard."

Clive added: "We get stuff that suits them."

He did also say that no matter how many gifts the children get, they are still appreciative of what they receive.

Amanda also admitted that she has had some trials and tribulations in getting the Christmas turkey on the table, saying that one year she "dropped" the festive bird on her feet.

Then there is the decorating of Ravenseat Farm for the Yuletide season, which the shepherdess admits is a little more loose with its rules.

Amanda said: "It's always chaos. The decorating theme this year is 'chuck everything at the tree and hope it all stays up'.

"But I like it that way. Our Christmas isn't like a Christmas in the Next Directory. I cannot stand throwaway presents.

"The kids always get something to open, but it has to be something that hasn't cost a fortune and it has to be useful.

"For instance, Edith is getting a new pair of school shoes."

It is not just the family that enjoy the Christmas celebrations as Amanda revealed that Clara the cow, who has been domesticated, is often in the house.

She explained: " She was fed by hand as a calf because her mother didn't have any milk, so she thinks she's a human.

"She doesn't like the rain. It's a problem, actually. I'll be doing something and I'll shout 'why do I smell cow?'

"And she will be in the living room."
