Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen fumes as she's mocked for wearing body-con dresses

The Yorkshire Shepherdess has spoken out after critics claimed she was 'no longer being a shepherd', due to sometimes stepping out wearing 'a pair of stilettos and a body-con dress'.

But mum-of-nine Amanda has told fans 'it's still all about the farm' and her occasional glam appearance - and huge media attention it brings with it - doesn't stop her from being a shepherdess.

Since, Our Yorkshire Farm ’s phenomenal success Amanda has been thrust into the spotlight, but is also an acclaimed author, photographer and now TV personality, as she explains to Simon Armitage on the next episode of BBC Radio 4 podcast The Poet Laureate Has Gone to His Shed.

Discussing the impact the hit TV series Our Yorkshire Farm has had on her life, Amanda told Simon: “It’s made me incredibly busy but, if you can imagine, it all began with books really."

She said things started to change six or seven years ago and since then they have diversified like any other business.

She added: “Maybe it’s a bit of a strange diversification but if you can make living out of writing about sheep, and taking photographs of sheep, as well as wrestling them to the ground and shearing them, then all well and good.

“And anybody who wishes to say: ‘Well you’re not a shepherd anymore because you’ve got a pair of stilettos on and a body-con dress’.

“I will say: ‘Oh yes I am’, because it’s still all about the farm and all about the sheep at the end of the day.”

The shepherdess rarely leaves her beloved farm at Ravenseat, North Yorkshire, where she lives with husband Clive and their bustling brood of nine kids filming Channel 5's Our Yorkshire Farm.

But when she does 'glam up' her appearance doesn't go un-noticed.

She's happy to occasionally ditch her farm duties and swapped her work clothes for a figure-hugging long sleeved black dress.

She showed off her new look recently as she shared a full-length mirror selfie in the posh powder room recently, after attending a business event in Leeds.

She shared the post with followers on Instagram adding: "Never miss an opportunity to let my hair down..."

Amanda and her family first appeared on the popular ITV series The Dales, which was presented by Adrian Edmondson.

They then featured in Channel 5’s New Lives in the Wild with Ben Fogle.

Following that, she released several books before securing a contract with Channel 5 for their very own show - Our Yorkshire Farm - which initially had only four episodes.

Our Yorkshire Farm is available to watch on Demand 5 now and T he Poet Laureate Has Gone to His Shed, 19:15 Saturday 10 July on Radio 4 and BBC Sounds.
